Evelyn Heginbotham
An article from the Longridge News Feb 2009:
AMONG the regular helpers at Grimsargh Farmers' Market is a sprightly 73-year-old who has been recognised for her services to the community.
Evelyn Heginbotham was recently presented with the Preston City Council Rural Area Forum 'Community Champion Award' by the council's leader, Coun Ken Hudson. A resident of Grimsargh for 47 years, Mrs Heginbotham says she was "gob-smacked" after learning she was to be presented with the award - a certificate and Spode plate from the l992 Preston Guild - after being nominated by a friend, Eileen Parker. Mrs Heginbotham received a letter in the post and says she had to check the envelope to make sure it had arrived at the right address!
Mrs Heginbotham says she believes in keeping busy and "keeping the little grey cells working like Hercule Poirot" and besides her community responsibilities, enjoys bowling and keep fit in the village.
Not only does she help in the kitchen during the farmers' markets, but has been a committee member of the Grimsargh Village Community Association (which runs the village hall) for eight years. She is also treasurer of the Grimsargh Gardening Club and Flower Fund; has been a Grimsargh WI committee member for eight years and is entries secretary and treasurer for the annual Grimsargh Flower, Produce and Handicraft Show.
